New to VC: Turning Community into Investment Opportunity

  • Cooley LLP 55 Hudson Yards New York, NY, 10001 United States (map)

New to VC is an educational series for a group of relatively new investors who want to be exposed to the best venture and startup thinking. Each event is attended by accredited investors and non-partner VCs that skew intentionally, but not exclusively, toward underrepresented backgrounds.

Come learn about how three investors are building unique communities around themselves in order to drive proprietary deal flow and visibility. We’ll talk about the time commitments, ROI and what it takes to maintain engagement and high quality experiences for members.

Speakers:

Kevin Weatherman, Co Founder and Head of Business of TVADS.ai and Angel

Kevin is an accomplished executive and serial founder with extensive experience in AdTech, SaaS, go-to-market strategies, fundraising, and scaling venture-backed companies. He has played pivotal roles at industry-leading organizations such as PubMatic, MoPub, OneSignal, and Moloco. As a prominent angel investor, Kevin has backed several successful VC-funded startups, including Attentive, Ghost, Electric, mParticle, and others.

Lauren Reeves, Principal at MGV.VC

Lauren is an early-stage investor and engineer. Technical by trade, her path into venture comes after her tenure as a software engineer at places including BlackRock, Postmates, and Alto Pharmacy. At MGV, she is a principal investor and heads the East Coast Ecosystem. Lauren's career is reflective of her excitement to push the boundaries of innovation—whether through emerging technology, healthcare, or community. Outside of work she hosts events for minority VCs, writes on substack, and is an avid proponent of dance.

Mike MacCombie, GP of Generous Ventures

Mike MacCombie is GP of Generous Ventures, a pre-seed and seed fund based in NYC. He invests in vertical SaaS, vertical B2B marketplaces, supply chain/logistics, and vertical compliance tech. As a former behavioral consultant, he focuses on behavioral design as a leverage point for distribution (narrative/customer storytelling, product design, go-to-market strategy, and business model incentives) of companies and their products, and runs 125+ communities to provide leverage to founders and investors to do what they do even better. He spends his free time playing chess, watching every Marvel movie, hosting unique events (international mystery trips, for example), and making abstract art.
